Lower-risk driving routes in George

George was added in November 2026, the second Garden Route town after Mossel Bay. Coverage is the George municipality south of the Outeniqua mountains: the town centre and its suburbs, Blanco, Pacaltsdorp, Thembalethu, Conville and Rosedale, the airport, Herold's Bay, Victoria Bay and Wilderness. Every area and main road is rated against SAPS figures for the police stations that serve it and against local news reports, and checked a second time.

Rated ground in George. We never name suburbs as risky.

Areas rated high risk, by time of day

areas rated high risk at night, 19:30 to 05:00

  • Daytime, 05:00 to 17:300
  • Evening, 17:30 to 19:300
  • Night, 19:30 to 05:004

Of the 56 rated areas in George, these are the ones in the top of the four bands for each part of the day. Every figure comes straight from the live database, read on 3 November 2026. The lowest band means an area was checked and carries no routing penalty, which is different from an area we have no data for. A rating describes an area's history of vehicle crime, not what is happening on a street right now: lower risk is not no risk.

What to know on these roads

  1. 01

The N2 through George and the Outeniqua Pass are checked roads with no risk penalty, so a trip along the Garden Route or over the mountain can stay on them.

  2. 02

The R102 past the airport, the R404 to Herold's Bay and town roads such as York Street, Knysna Street, Courtenay Street and Montagu Street are marked for caution, mostly for theft from parked cars and grab-and-go theft at traffic lights. The route card names any rated stretch a route uses.

  3. 03

The Montagu Pass has been closed since 2023 for flood repairs and is marked as closed, so routes over the mountains use the Outeniqua Pass until it reopens.

Tsamaya rates roads and routes. It does not publish a list of neighbourhoods, and the app never labels a place for anyone other than the driver about to pass through it.

Questions

George, asked

Yes. Wilderness, Hoekwil, Victoria Bay and Herold's Bay are inside the mapped area, as are Pacaltsdorp and Thembalethu.

The George end is. The N2 east of Wilderness runs outside the mapped area, so there the app navigates as normal, without risk data.
